“A picture is worth a thousand words is a proverb that refers to the idea that complex stories can be told with a single still image, or that an image may be more influential than a substantial amount of text. It also aptly characterizes the goals of visualization where large amounts of data must be absorbed quickly.” - Wikipedia
Freelance photographer Steve Stearns endeavors to create just such images that invoke a special memory, something of significant meaning, or to document a life event or point in time. Steve Stearns takes on a variety of creative projects that help him grow as a photographer and individual. Steve Stearns is a multi-talented individual with both technical and artistic abilities. He graduated from a regional vocational technical high school with a dual diploma (i.e., academics and architectural design). After graduation, Steve Stearns started his own architectural design practice and focused on designing single family homes, duplexes, additions, and even a small commercial building. He used a 35-mm film SLR camera to document the construction of his architectural designs.
He was born and raised in Massachusetts, where he lived the majority of his life. In August 2004, Steve Stearns was offered the unique opportunity to do an information technologies project in the southwestern United States that was estimated to last 6-18 months. That single project turned into several interesting projects and 30-months. While in the southwest, Steve Stearns purchased his first digital camera, a Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 (a 7.2-megapixel point-and-shoot camera). He began experimenting with photographing a variety of subject matters (e.g., people, cityscapes, landscapes, etc.). Some of those photographs can be seen in my online portfolio.
Steve Stearns entered his first photography contest and was awarded third place with the tumbled broken red glass and landscape light photograph. That particular photograph was taken at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona as part of a photography project for a class he was taking at the time.
In February 2007, Steve Stearns returned to his home in Massachusetts. Shortly after returning, he upgraded his camera to a Canon EOS 30D (a digital SLR). The Canon 30D provides more on camera capabilities for creative effects and abilities. As you look through Steve Stearns’ online portfolio, you’ll notice the progression in his style and focus.
In September 2007, he was given the unique opportunity to participate in a gallery-style showing at a local venue of his Cityscape and Landscape photography. Steve Stearns plans to periodically rotate the photographs during the duration of the exhibit.
Steve Stearns continues grow and develop his photography skills and style with each project he does. He enjoys meeting and working with individuals.
